Hi, I’m Jen, I’m mum to 1 year old Elodie, 4 year old Xander and step-mum to 9 year old Bella. I’m a Level 3 Personal Trainer, a Level 3 Pre and Post Natal Exercise specialist and an England Athletics running leader. I have always enjoyed exercise and keeping fit, having taken part in many running, cycling and fitness challenges and events over the years. It’s always been just for fun, but it is also how I relax and something that makes me feel good.

I re-trained as a personal trainer with a pre and post-natal specialism after having my first baby by emergency C-Section and suffering from diastasis Recti (a separation of the abdominal muscles). I felt very unsure as to what exercises I should / shouldn’t do finding a lot of conflicting advice out there so after I qualified, I set up Mama Mojo Fitness, to share my experiences which I ran for 3 years. The best decision I ever made!

After spending lots of time with my clients, I realised that I didn’t want to just concentrate on new mums but ALL women and through all phases of their life, including the peri / menopausal period. Every woman has their own needs and I wanted to create a business that addresses this. So I took further courses with the amazing Burrell education to widen my skill-set, and also became a Holistic Core Restore® coach which, amongst other things, enables me to offer programmes to help clients get a more optimally functioning core and pelvic floor. So as well as the pre/post natal period, I can help women who have had a c-section, hysterectomy, who suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction abdominal separation, and those going through peri / post menopause.

After many conversations with Jess, who has a similar ethos, we decided to join forces and Mama Mojo Fitness has now evolved into Mojo Fit, the home of heath and fitness for any woman.

Mojo Fit is all about finding your mojo again. Regaining your spark, feeling confident and comfortable in your body, meeting new friends and getting moving and feeling like the old you again, or perhaps an even better you!

Hi, I’m Jess.

I’m mum to two boys age 6 and 9. Before becoming a mum, fitness was always a big part of my life, starting when I competed in cross country running during my school years. I was in the gym up until a few days before my first child was born but looking back, I had very little guidance about how to exercise safely during pregnancy. I tried an anti-natal yoga class but was frustrated at the extreme sedentary pace.

While I was sure that being pregnant didn’t need to stop me from being active, I had little clue about how to safely exercise so just muddled on through as best I could without really managing to prepare my body for what was to come. After my children were born, I found it quite difficult to get back into regular exercise. Running was previously my passion, but I just couldn’t get motivated to run enough to get my form back even though I knew how good it would be for me. I had also moved to a new area so had lost my running buddies. Meeting Jen and joining the Mojo running club was a big turning point. It was great to run with a group of supportive women and I quickly rediscovered my love of running and my fitness mojo.

In early 2019, I qualified as a run leader with England Athletics and started to work with Jen at the mojo running club (now Mojo Run Fit). I’ve loved seeing our ladies develop at all stages of their running journeys. As well as seeing numerous women come through our beginners courses, we have a very active and mutually supportive group of intermediate runners (many of whom started off in our beginners courses). We have a lot of fun and firm friendships have developed. For some, the sessions are about training for races although the group itself is completely non-competitive.

Having dreamt of a career in fitness for a long time, I was spurred on by my experiences as a run leader and 2020 I took the plunge and decided to make the jump from a career in social work to one in women’s fitness. I loved how Jen’s approach was all about helping women feel the physical and emotional benefits of fitness and exercise, rather than focussing on body size or dieting. I wished that there had been someone like Jen around when I went through pregnancy and early motherhood, so I’m really excited about supporting other mums through these stages. I’m also so happy that we are widening the scope of the business to offer support to women at all stages of their lives and to help all women achieve fitness. The really significant physiological changes that happen to women at the different life stages aren’t really acknowledged or discussed and therefore we often don’t know how use physical activity to effectively promote our health and well-being. We want to change this by giving women the skills to increase and maintain their fitness in a way that complements their life phase. We want to use our knowledge to support and motivate women in achieving a fit and active lifestyle and feeling the buzz which comes from this.

I cannot rate Jen high enough and I would have rated her 10 stars if I could. Jen has been working with me on a 1:1 basis after both of my pregnancies helping me restore my pelvic floor and core stability and improve my fitness levels. Jen is attentive yet encouraging and will push you to perform your best.

I’ve noticed a significant improvement aesthetically in just 5 weeks and also feel much stronger when lifting things and my children. Before I began the course I looked 4 months pregnant and since starting it, I keep getting comments how good shape I’m in.  Jen’s knowledge of what was needed was great. I felt in good hands!

When I met with Jen it really changed my perception on things, I had previously been incorrectly informed that my diastasis was only going to be fixable through surgery as I had a full collapse at 4cm wide. The exercises Jen taught me have been great and she’s been really positive with the way she has allowed me to pick and choose the most suitable exercises that I feel for me are making the most impact and engagement of muscles. Since beginning her course my gap has halved and my stomach is much flatter.

Lovely, calm, friendly Jen guided 7 of us through a 6 week course that was our first exercise since the marathon that is birth. I felt so good after each session! Not too much that I couldnt move next day but tough enough I felt my body was stronger. She paid a lot of attention to our tummies/those muscles that need care after birth and made sure backs were correct etc. She is amazing!
I’d highly recommend the beginners course – we were ladies of all shapes and sizes and ages, and all pretty convinced we would be the least fit there when we started!

Jen was so encouraging and the pace of the course is just right. I’ve looked forward to Monday nights every week, and I would have never dreamed that I’d say that about running!

It has been a wonderful experience . A steady progression to being able to just get out and run without feeling exhausted. Jennifer is genuine , enthusiastic and knowledgable .

My fitness has improved and I feel I have found an incredible new outlet .There is also the added element you get within a group of friendship and fun and I felt very included. It was more than I could have hoped for, a lovely supportive atmosphere, all ages not just for young mums so don’t let your age put you off .
